Knitting for Good

Hi Everyone,
This week we are knocking on the door of the 10th Anniversary of Charlotte Area Yarn Crawl (just around the corner), participating in a KAL, and are still smitten with Smitten.

Knitted Knockers Campaign
The Fibre Studio is an on-going sponsor of Knitted and of the Giving Back efforts of the Charlotte Area Yarn Crawl.

This year, we dedicate our efforts to one of our own (story here) as we collect these hand knit prosthetics for breast cancer survivors.

The Fibre Studio gives away a lovely cotton bamboo fiber for anyone who signs up with us. Contact us at 980-475-4705 or debbie(at)thefibrestudio(dot)com to learn how you can commit to this campaign and receive your Knitted Knockers fiber.

Acoma Pullover KAL
The Fibre Studio so loves this pullover, we have decided to host a KAL. We’ve put together two Acoma kit options for it as well. The first is in our new Studio Smitten and the second is in our Studio Sox.

For those of you interested in signing up, the KAL begins the last Wednesday in August, and participants will meet at The Fibre Studio during our Wednesday Open Knit/Crochet from 10a-12n (August 29, September 5, September 12, and September 19). The makers will then have until the Charlotte Area Yarn Crawl to finish their sweaters. Makers who participate (as follows) will be eligible for a surprise at the end of the Charlotte Area Yarn Crawl. The rules are:

  1. Sign up for the KAL by or on August 29;
  2. Your Acoma must be made with yarn purchased from The Fibre Studio; and
  3. Wear or bring your new Acoma when you visit us during the Charlotte Area Yarn Crawl any time from September 21-29.

Participants who meet the above criteria will be entered into a drawing for a prize at the end of the yarn crawl. Should makers just want to knit along (it is a KAL, after all) and not be a formal participant, they are welcome to join us on those Wednesdays listed above.

The Acoma (ACK-uh-muh) by designer Casapinka is a top-down sweater that is inspired by the pottery of the Acoma along with the beautiful skies that you see from Acoma Sky City in New Mexico. It is written to have 2” of positive ease. Two pretty lace panels separate areas of stranded knitting for a unique yoke with scalloped accents. This is a fairly fast sweater to knit, with subtle side seams and a casual fit.

Studio Smitten
Our latest fiber offering is Studio Smitten, a squishy, three-ply fingering-weight yarn with exquisite hand feel and stitch definition. The blend is made up of 80% Superwash Merino | 10% Cashmere | 10% Silk and is sold in 3.5-ounce (100 gram) skeins of approximately 406 yards.

This fiber is a beautifully-soft addition to our studio and is perfect for those sweater,  shawl, and other multi-season projects where drape, flexibility, and lighter-weight (density) is desirable.

Want to know what we’re deweing? Pop in to see our studio wörks on Ravelry, Facebook (we post changes to our business hours here), and Instagram as well as on our website at (we post changes to our business hours here).

Happy stitching, y’all!
