March 2018 Newes

Hi Everyone,
March Madness is almost upon us! In this instance, we’re not talking basketball, y’all! There is truth in Lorie Hill’s poem, which states, “March roars in like a lion, so fierce. The wind so cold, it seems to pierce. The month rolls on, and Spring draws near. And March goes out like a lamb so dear.”

Here in the South, the weather can be cray cray. It can be 85F in late February and the beginning of March; then we get those last deep freezes at Eastover (the time around Easter + Passover), which causes worry about our peach trees, spring lettuces, dogwoods, hyacinths, and azaleas.

But if we’re not discussing basketball, and we can’t control the weather…what is OUR March Madness all about? It’s about a jam-packed calendar of fun, fiber-centric events!

Spinning Saturday
We are open for retail on the first Saturday, March 3, and will host our monthly Spinning Saturday. Bring your wheels, your roving (or find hand-dyed roving in our studio…some of which just made it into our Sale Bin), and your current projects to sit and spin with us on an on-going basis. All skill levels welcome.

Not a spinner? We welcome knitters and crocheters as well or just come to see what’s new at the Studio!

Edinburgh Yarn Festival
Our fearless leader is making the trip across the pond to the annual Edinburgh Yarn Festival 2018 in mid-March. Expect a few upcoming color surprises and offerings from the studio to celebrate this trip, and we hope to get updates and news from her while she’s on this adventure to share with our followers and greater fiber community.

Carolina Fiber Frolic
The Fibre Studio is a participant in this year’s Carolina Fiber Frolic in Sapphire, NC. The actual retreat is March 16-18, however, we will be packing up our fibers and traveling on the 15th. The Fibre Studio will be closed to the public from Mar 15-18.

This is our first time participating at Carolina Fiber Frolic, and we have planned something special with Jan Smiley (event coordinator) just for this event. C’mon out and see us!

Carolina FiberFest
The Fibre Studio will again participate in the annual Carolina FiberFest, held in the Kerr Scott Building at the NC State Fairgrounds in our fair capital Raleigh, NC. The festival is from Mar 23-24, however, we will pack up our yarns and travel on March 22. The Fibre Studio will be closed to the public from March 22-24.

For those of you who have never attended, there are classes/workshops, demos and talks, a myriad of shopping for all things fiber-related, and is a great opportunity to meet your regional indie dyers and see their fibers in person. This is a great opportunity for a girl’s day (or weekend) out. Pick up a friend and visit us in our booth. We think we will be in the same booth as last year and will update our FB Events Page when confirmed.

Want to know what we’re deweing? Pop in to see our studio wörks on Ravelry, Facebook (we post changes to our business hours here), and Instagram as well as on our website at thefibrestudio.com (we post changes to our business hours here).

Happy stitching, y’all!
The Ewe Crew

October Newes

Hi Everyone,
The Fibre Studio Ewe Crew is both sad and exhilarated this week. We are sad because the long-awaited yarn crawl is over, and yet we are so happy to have been able to see everyone!

Flash Your Stash
What did ewe add to your stash during the Charlotte Yarn Crawl? Flash Your Stash on our Facebook Events Page here! We will randomly pick a flasher’s name for a small prize on October 11…so bare (your stash, that is) if you dare.

October is another busy dyeing and event-centric month for us. Check out these upcoming events and sneak peeks to stay in the yarn over loop.

Save the Knockers Campaign
Thank YOU to all the makers who supported our Save the Knockers Campaign and who have already returned your completed Knitted Knockers to us. Please note we decided to continue this community project for the entire next calendar year and will continue to provide the Knitted Knockers kits at no charge (must be picked up AT and returned TO our studio on Griffith Street) for any who would like to continue to support this worthwhile endeavor.

Trunk Show at Admit Ewe Knit
On Saturday, October 7 we are taking the show back on the road…this time to our state capital Raleigh, North Carolina.

Baaathsheba will tow her little cart of pretty yarns up to Admit Ewe Knit yarn shop. Proprietor, Sara Mims is graciously hosting our visit, and we are excited to return to Raleigh with some of our newest color ways and yarn bases. If you’re in the area, come see us! Ewe know ewe want to!

Spinning Saturday
Attention all spinners! With the weather cooling a bit, we are planning to have our regularly-scheduled Sit & Spin open event on October 7 at the studio. Please note: There will be no retail on Oct 6-7 as our yarn is traveling (note above).

Spooktacular Yarns
All Hallows Eve (or Halloween) is just around the corner, and many crafters like to use holiday-inspired yarns. We’ve brought back a favorite for this season’s Monster Mash. On the left is gradient Wicked, which we’ve paired with Slip Sliming Away (center) in our Freckles – Fingering as well as Eastwick, another new color in our Fifty Shades of Gradient™ line. Order yours today before they fly off the shelves.

Southeastern Animal Fiber Fair (SAFF)
Be sure to mark your calendars for SAFF 2017! The event proper will be held from Friday to Sunday, October 27-29. The Fibre Studio’s booth will be located in the Davis Arena
(unrelated to Debbie) in Booths 336 & 338.

Open for Business:
Fri & Sat, October 27-28 – (9am – 6pm)
Sun, October 29 – (9am – 4pm)

The event is located at the WNC Agricultural Center, in Fletcher, NC.

As an indie dyer, we are always pleased to offer a new mystery SAFF colorway. This year’s color is gorgeous, and we’ve named it Nantahala. Debbie knit a shawl sample in a fantastic Laura Aylor design called Touchstone. Grab this (currently) free pattern and place a pre-order for your cake of Nantahala so you are assured of receiving a cake of this luscious color way at SAFF (we always run out) and still have enough time to make something gorgeous to enjoy for fall and winter.

Please Note: The Fibre Studio will be CLOSED to the public from October 25-29 in preparation for and traveling to SAFF. Online orders received during this time will be processed upon our return. Thank you for your patience as always.

Happy traveling and stitching, y’all!

August Newes

Hi Everyone!
We have great news, upcoming events, and product information to share with you this month!

August 19 – Trunk Show at Black Mountain Yarn Shop
The Fibre Studio will present a pop-up shop at Black Mountain Yarn Shop on Saturday, the 19th. We will be there from 10am-5pm and will have lovely Fifty Shades of Gradient™, Merino Bamboo – Fingering, Cotton Bamboo in Fingering and Worsted, Walkabout – Fingering, Color Play Kits, and much MUCH more. If you haven’t already done so, this is a great time to answer that What the Fade!? question.

August 16 – Bonnie and Clyde Movie Event
We still have a few group movie tickets remaining for our upcoming Bonnie and Clyde classic movie event on Wednesday, the 16th. We will still have open knit and crochet that morning, however, we will leave around 12:45-1:00pm for the Stonecrest Movie Theater to buy our popcorn and watch the movie. While we’ve stopped all dyeing for secret color way Joplin (it will be back for the Charlotte Area Yarn Crawl), assigned-seating tickets are still available for $15. Please join us for a fun time as we travel along with that dangerous duo, Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow.

Inara Wrap in Fifty Shades of Gradient™
This lovely shawl/wrap by Ambah O’Brien is currently one of our favorites. The pattern has both charts and instructions for three sizes: short (64″ x 18.5″), medium (80″ x 18.5″), and long (96″ x 18.5″). Why we love it? We like to follow the KISS principle (Keep It Simple Sweetie) and will use two, 4-ounce cakes of our Fifty Shades of Gradient to create the short version for our shop sample. There are fewer ends to weave in, and the softer gradient changes from single skein cakes create a water color effect when they overlap with another gradient in a contrasting color. The longer versions are also lovely worked in a main color along with a 5- or 6-skein Color Play Kit.

Color Suggestions (from left to right, top to bottom): Belize & Business Suit; Creamsicle & Latte; Glenda of the East & Basil; Northern Lights & Lavender; Dante & Business Suit; and Hydrangea & Neptune

So many color options…so little time!

knitCompanion Workshop

Are your hands full?  Does your lap runneth over with yarn, needles AND your paper pattern, stitch counter, row markers?

Learn how to utilize knitCompanion, a user- and device-friendly app, which can simplify your life AND open up space on your lap for that lovely, fluffy, soft yarn you’re currently working.

Charlotte knitting guru, Linda Rudisill, will teach you how to update or download the latest version of the app to your device, download your next project pattern, review the app’s existing tools as well as additional tools available with upgrades, and then personalize the viewing screen to YOUR particular specifications.

Have ADD/ADHD and dance with the squirrel on a regular basis?  No worries!  The app screen may be simplified to draw the eye to the most basic of information–perhaps only the written instructions with the stitch counter.  Love to see everything on one page?  Conversely, the app can be set to show sections of your pattern’s written instructions, stitch counter, corresponding chart sections, and chart key.

Join us for this knitCompanion class and never be a lonely, overwhelmed knitter again.  Class info is as follows:

Date: Wednesday, April 13, 2016
Time: 10:30am to 12:30pm
Location:  The Fibre Studio at Yarns to Dye For, 658 Griffith Road, Suite 107 | Charlotte, NC  28217
